It was a Friday night when I got the teary call from Britt.
“We sold the house. I’m so upset. I mean…it’s where we brought home the kids…I don’t know why I’m so attached to it…but I want you to photograph us in it after we move all of our stuff out.” I agreed and hung up.
My husband looked at me and asked, “Is everyone ok?” I replied, “Yeah, they just sold their house.” He just raised his eyebrows and I smiled.
It was Britt and Blake’s first house. They moved in after they were married. It’s the home they brought their kids home to from the hospital. Britt teared up every time we talked about the pending move.
The day they moved the last of their stuff, I showed up to two naked Kluse kids (this is not unusual) and exhausted parents. We went from room to room, with Britt hugging walls and begging her family to remember their first house. As she forced four year old Braxton to cuddle with her in the master bedroom, she said, “Promise me you’ll remember this house, Brax.” He grabbed her face in his little hands and said in a too-adult voice, “MOM. I’ll remember it.”
Even if Brynna and Braxton don’t remember this place, at least they’ll have a lot of photos of what life was like in the house on 4th.
